Light’s Out: Nat “King” Cole
(In Development)

In Development

On December 17th, 1957, it was LIGHTS OUT on “The Nat ‘King’ Cole Show.” Despite being the voice that built Capitol Records, Nat “King” Cole’s groundbreaking television show was rejected by Madison Avenue, unwilling to sponsor one of America’s first black television hosts. Now, on the night of his final broadcast, Nat must grapple with the complexities of his psyche, personified by his best friend and alter-ego, Sammy Davis Jr., and decide whether to quietly step out of the spotlight or go out with a bang.

Tony and Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo (Rustin, Sing Sing) and Patricia McGregor (The Refuge Plays) have created an electrifying exploration of the soul of an American icon who fought to break through America’s color barrier in the early days of television.

LIGHTS OUT: NAT “KING” COLE was most recently seen at New York Theatre Workshop following an earlier production at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, both of which starred Emmy nominee Dulé Hill (The West Wing) as the titular icon.

In Development

The new musical WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE, currently being developed at MCC Theatre in NYC, is written by Peter Hedges (the writer of the 1991 novel and 1993 film of the same name) and features energetic and fresh original songs by Christopher Sears, Adrian Blake Enscoe, Sydney Shepherd, and Regina Strayhorn (the latter three being members of the folk-pop trio Bandits on the Run). It tells the story of Gilbert Grape, a grocery store clerk in the fictional town of Endora, Iowa, who cares for his eccentric family, including a morbidly obese mother and a younger brother with special needs.

A warm, engrossing, and totally original adaptation, WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE reintroduces a beloved story to modern audiences. More information coming soon!
